Welcome to our Web site !
As is well known, organic and polymeric materials are promising key materials for creating and maintaining high-quality modern human lives. These materials are generally macromolecules with the molecular weight range of 102 `106 and with the sizes of 10-9 ` 10-7 m, carrying useful and valuable functions and showing various interesting characters even such as conductivity, magnetism, and high thermal stability like metals and ceramics. They can be also used as copolymers, blends, composites, hybrids, alloys, and so on.
Further, by special design of molecules, they can assemble and self-organize at the molecular level to form nanomaterials and objects with three-dimensional ordered suprastructures. These materials may function more delicately and intelligently and often behave like living creatures. Thus, organic and polymeric materials have huge possibilities and high potentials with a wide variety of applications. Recently, their chemistry, physics, and applications have been rapidly and greatly developed, strongly associating with not only general technologies, but nanotechnology, biotechnology, and information technology.
The Department of Organic and Organic Matrials Engineerings at Tokyo Tech has been authorized as one of the top research groups in the world, providing strong leadership in the education and research of the field. More than 50 faculty members belong to the department, and most of them participate in the undergraduate and graduate educational programs as well as active research programs. It holds ~200 undergraduate students, nearly 150 graduate students, and ~100 persons of post-doctoral associates, visiting fellows from companies and foreign institutes. At present, the department forms the biggest research group dealing with organic and polymeric materials admittedly in Japan and probably in the world. Therefore, all the undergraduate and graduate students as well as young researchers can be educated and perform their research works in widely different fields within the department.
You are always welcome to our department !!!
